Why did you get involved with MSTA?
I first got involved as a building rep when the previous building rep left for another school district. She approached me to see if I was interested and started there. I went to my first state convention when I was offered, thinking it was a few paid days away from my classroom. It was there when I was sold on MSTA and the benefits for teachers.
How has MSTA made a difference in your career?
Being involved in MSTA has allowed me to connect to our staff and use my skills to try to continue to build a positive staff culture. It has allowed me to also make a difference at the state level, which is always something that I have wanted to do: make a larger impact than just within my classroom. This has allowed me to have sit-downs with state legislators not only on Capitol Visit days, but within the community as well.
What is something your students would be surprised to learn about you?
My students may be surprised to know that I once completed the Joplin Memorial Half Marathon.
Why Adam was named an Unsung Hero:
'The best way to spread MSTA cheer is singing loud for all to hear.'– Buddy.
"Adam Hogan is willing to do whatever it takes to support and encourage the members in his district, whether it is dressing like Buddy the Elf for giveaways, doing video updates or advocating for teachers within his district," said MSTA Member Service Coordinator Aubry Kruse. "Adam has passionately been serving in his CTA for the past 14 years. His passion for students, teachers, and MSTA is contagious!"
