How has MSTA made a difference in your career?
MSTA has made me more aware of the causes that are worth protecting in education. It has helped me to network with educators outside of my district and reconnect with others that I have had the privilege to work with in my former district. The people that I have worked with through MSTA and CTA have made a big difference for me and my career.
What was a career-related highlight in 2024?
I have always been interested in pursuing administration. I had a chance to intern as assistant principal at one of our summer school sites this year. I was a little intimidated to take on the task and explore a new role in education, but ended up loving it!
What is advice you wish you could give yourself earlier in your career?
If I could go back in time and give myself some advice earlier in my career, I would probably tell myself how important it is to maintain balance with my professional and personal life. I think when you are first starting out, it's easy to let yourself become wrapped up in getting your career off the ground. It's important to make time for yourself and spend time doing the things that fulfill you. That's the only way you can be your best self for the students and staff you work with!
Why Emily was named an Unsung Hero:
"Emily has done an exceptional job revitalizing Republic’s CTA," said MSTA Member Service Coordinator Marca Hayter. "She has made a conscious effort to re-establish the CTA executive board as well as building representatives, ensuring a strong and effective leadership structure. Emily has significantly increased communication among the CTA board, membership and district administration, fostering a more cohesive and informed community. One of Emily’s primary focuses has been connecting with new members of the district, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported. Simultaneously, she continues to provide unwavering support to veteran teachers throughout the year. Her dedication to both new and experienced educators highlights her commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all. Notably, Emily grew the CTA membership significantly last year, demonstrating her ability to engage and inspire her colleagues."
