Why did you get involved with MSTA?

During my college courses at Truman State University, we were required to be a student member of MSTA while we were doing our hours in classrooms. I have continued my membership since.

What was a career-related highlight in 2024?

My 2024 highlight is bringing the idea of starting a CTA to some coworkers and our administration. Many of our staff were on board with starting one this year, so we reached out and made it happen! It has been amazing to be a part of starting an organization that benefits my coworkers!

What is advice you wish you could give yourself earlier in your career?

I definitely wish I had found out earlier that I don't need to grade every single assignment I give to students. It's been a game-changer this year!

Why Samantha was named an Unsung Hero:

"Prior to having a CTA in her district, Samantha served as the MSTA contact," said MSTA Member Service Coordinator Keri Cottrell. "Samantha worked with one of her colleagues to revitalize the CTA at Ralls County R-2 and increased MSTA membership in her small district by 45%."
