Why is your work as an educator important to you?
My work as an educator is important to me because I have the privilege of helping students see their own potential and believe in it. I strive to create moments where they discover new passions, build confidence, and realize they have something valuable to offer the world. Those “aha” moments—when a skill clicks or a goal suddenly feels within reach—are what drive me. For me, teaching isn’t just about content; it’s about shaping futures.
How do you create an engaging and welcoming environment in your classroom?
I create an engaging and welcoming environment by getting to know each student as an individual and recognizing the unique strengths they bring to the classroom. I design learning experiences that allow different talents to shine—whether through creativity, problem-solving, leadership, or collaboration. By fostering mutual respect, celebrating successes, and offering support when challenges arise, I create a space where students feel valued, safe to take risks, and confident in their ability to succeed.
What is one student engagement or community-building strategy that you have found successful?
One of my most successful student engagement and community-building strategies has been our student-run retail business. Students take full ownership—from design and production to marketing and customer service—while collaborating with local businesses and organizations on real projects. This hands-on model gives them a sense of purpose, builds confidence, and fosters teamwork. By connecting classroom learning to authentic community needs, students see their work make a real impact, which keeps them motivated and invested.
What advice would you give a teacher wanting to improve their students’ learning experience?
My advice to teachers wanting to improve their students' learning experience would be to focus on building genuine relationships first, because students learn best when they feel seen, valued, and understood. Take time to learn their interests, strengths, and goals, and then connect your lessons to those things in meaningful ways. Incorporate hands-on, real-world experiences whenever possible so learning feels relevant and alive. And remember, your enthusiasm is contagious. If you model curiosity, passion, and a willingness to learn alongside your students, you’ll inspire them to do the same.
What are your passions and hobbies outside of the classroom?
I am passionate about being a lifelong learner, always seeking new opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. I especially enjoy exploring new technology and creative projects that allow me to think outside the box and try innovative ideas. Fitness and exercise are an important part of my life, helping me stay energized and balanced. Above all, I cherish spending time with my three children, creating memories, and sharing experiences that keep life full and meaningful.
